If you are heading to Salalah during the Khareef season (July to September), get ready to witness Mother Nature in all her gorgeous splendour! This monsoon season transforms the region into a green wonderland, with gushing waterfalls, like those mentioned below, taking centre stage.
Ayn Athum Waterfall
The drive here alone is worth the trip, as you venture along misty mountain roads and curves amidst the lush greenery of Oman. Attractions like Ayn Athum, known for its cool mist, dramatic cascades, and jungle-like surroundings, are amongst the favourites of the Khareef season. Grab some snacks from local vendors and find a cosy spot to relax and let the beauty wash over you… quite literally!
Step Waterfall at Wadi Darbat
Nature really puts on a ‘show’ during the monsoon season at Wadi Darbat, only a 30 to 45-minute drive from properties like Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara. Here, you will find the Step Waterfall, which cascades gently down rocky ledges. Surrounded by rolling green hills (and the occasional camel!), it offers a postcard-perfect sight. Pack a picnic, and prepare for one of the most scenic outings you will take this year.
Travertine Curtain Waterfall
Also hidden within Wadi Darbat, this seasonal wonder only flows during Khareef… suffice it to say that timing is everything! The water spills down a rocky overhang, forming what looks like a flowing curtain made by nature herself. If you want that ethereal golden glow in your photos, look to visit early in the morning or late afternoon for the dreamiest lighting.
The Gogob Waterfall

Gogob is another natural wonder that appears during Khareef, which makes it feel like you are discovering a secret each time you visit. A scenic drive through the Dhofar Mountains leads to a rewarding hike… yes, a little sweat, but totally worth it! The waterfall itself tumbles down from mountain heights, fed by the Ayn Khyout spring, creating a sight which will leave you utterly spellbound.
