History

No more than a few decades ago, UAE was a region where Bedouin tribes used to roam around. These tribes didn’t want anything complicated; their needs were simple and all they wanted was to survive. These tribes traded with India, China, and Iran in the 1400s. The Portuguese administered the region in the late 1400s, and in 1892, the British had control over the region, which was the outcome of a treaty. However, in later years, the British found it difficult to administer the emirates. As a result, in 1971, the United Arab Emirates was formed.

Interesting facts

There are many interesting facts about the UAE. For one, the Dubai police force has the use of Ferraris and Lamborghinis. And there’s no address system in Dubai; if you are to send a package, you will have to give a full description of the receiver’s residence to the delivery service. What’s more, Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi is home to the fastest roller coaster in the world. The country is also a major tourist destination, serviced by major hotel brands; an example would be Minor Hotels.

Religion

Islam is the predominant religion in the UAE. The vast majority of people are Sunni Muslims, and the rest constitutes Shia. Other religions are tolerated; there’s a small percentage of Christian people, and you might also come across Hindus.

Language

The official language is Arabic. However, English is spoken by many, and it is the language of the business world. If you are here on business, it might be useful to learn a few Arabic phrases.
