The Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority was established, recognising the need for a leading institution to identify and develop renewable energy, thereby enhancing nationwide utilisation. This overview highlights key areas of potential development.
Clean Energy Roadmap
Renewable energy is needed in Sri Lanka for many important reasons like, environmental protection, benefits for economic savings and also solidifies energy security. The major pillars within this sector focus on acquiring land for project development, understanding the availability of transmission lines and/or possibilities for expanding the transmission system, and involving renewable energy companies in Sri Lanka that assist with the installation of complete solar solutions for future projects, such as Mclarens Sri Lanka.
Integrated Renewables & Emerging Energy
During the Renewable Energy Resource Development Plan project period (2021–2026), a wide variety of plans are to be incorporated, including offshore wind, floating solar, and the emerging potential of wave energy, with a three‑year review cycle to ensure progress and updates.

NRE Development Applications
Sri Lanka’s Vision for 70% Renewable Energy by 2030 emphasises open access development through the New Renewable Energy (NRE) Development Applications, allowing individuals and companies to apply—even without land or resource ownership. The selection process, guided by the Government of Sri Lanka, is evolving to prioritise economically efficient, high-viability renewable energy proposals to achieve national targets by 2030.
Promoting Awareness of NRE Policies and Developments
The Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority is also actively conducting awareness workshops to further reach audiences in terms of progressing renewable energy developments across the nation; the goal is to try and educate more people about government policies on renewable energy, resource allocation processes, etc.
